Within the safe space of the circle, you get more than movement. There are the lights, the sweat, the looks and the shouts. Some come to heal, others to explore themselves. Dance and music connect at the most intimate point, where every story unveils, rhythm upon rhythm.
LayeRhythm is an monthly event initiated by choreographer and dancer Mai Lê Hô in New York. In the mythic Lower East Side club Nublu, numerous dancers gather to become one with the music in improvisation sessions.

"A hand rises, then an elbow, a shoulder, and the whole body sways to the cadence set by the drummer. Like a wave, the dancers' bodies respond to the rapper's flow. The audience, in a circle around them, cheers them on and stokes their energy. In New York, in the bluish half-light of a cabaret, the LayeRhythm nights draw spectators and performers into the game of improvisation, sometimes all the way to trance."
